Volkswagen Beetle Convertible is Back!

The latest Beetle has been an instant success for Volkswagen since it went on sale in September 2011 as a 2012 model. And that success will continue with the introduction of the Beetle Convertible, the sportiest and most dynamic version of the iconic softtop seen so far.
Ever since the type 15 Convertible from 1949, the Beetle has been one of the most popular open-top cars built. More than 330,000 examples of the first Beetle Convertible were manufactured over a 32-year span, while another 234,619 New Beetle Convertibles were produced in an eight-year period.
The New Beetle Convertible was not a straight copy of the original, but a reinterpretation and development of it. And that’s the case with the third-generation Beetle Convertible. Klaus Bischoff, Head Designer, Volkswagen Brand says: “Retro is not our thing: we are always looking forward. Volkswagen has reinterpreted the Beetle Convertible’s timeless design with a sportier and more dynamic silhouette, just as it did with the Beetle Coupe. With EPA estimated fuel economy ratings of 48 mpg on the highway, 42 mpg in the city, and a combined rating of 45 mpg, the Jetta Hybrid becomes the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the Volkswagen lineup and the seventh model capable of more than 40 mpg on the highway. With sales of the Jetta Hybrid beginning later this month, Volkswagen will offer more products that achieve this benchmark fuel economy figure than any other automotive manufacturer in the United States.
The other models to achieve more than 40 mpg are in the TDI® Clean Diesel family: Beetle TDI (manual); Beetle Convertible TDI (manual); Golf TDI (manual and automatic); Jetta TDI (manual and automatic); Jetta SportWagen TDI (manual); and Passat TDI (manual and automatic).
The Jetta Hybrid is Volkswagen’s second hybrid vehicle to go on sale in the U.S. and its first in the compact hybrid sedan segment. Volkswagen Beetle R-Line to Be Available in U.S.

That will change when the Beetle R-Line goes on sale in early 2013. Offered only on the Turbo model, the Beetle R-Line is differentiated by a number of exterior and interior enhancements. The new, more aggressive front bumper sports grained black surfaces and chrome-framed turn signals, while the rear bumper now incorporates a race-inspired diffuser. R-Line logos, standard 19-inch “Tornado” aluminium-alloy wheels, and Bi-Xenon headlights with LED DRLs also help to differentiate the car from a regular Beetle Turbo.
Inside, the R-Line model features custom stainless-steel kickplates, a steering wheel badge, a unique color dashboard panel, and contrasting-color stitching on the seats, shifter knob, and handbrake lever. Beetle R-Line pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Volkswagen Announces Winner of First "Think Blue. World Championship"

The winner of the first Volkswagen “Think Blue. World Championship.” on U.S. soil crossed the finish line in Los Angeles, Calif. today. In a two-day competition, the 18 best inter¬national drivers took fuel-efficient driving to a higher level, achieving a range of 49.9 mpg with the brand new Jetta Hybrid.
The winners from the 2012 national championships from all over the world competed in a one-of-a-kind rally: driving from San Francisco to Santa Monica, their goal was to achieve the lowest fuel consumption and also demonstrate their knowledge of ecological sustainability.
On the 402-mile course through California, the participants experienced the new Jetta Hybrid and its different driving modes: from city streets to the curvy Pacific Coast Highway and freeways. The difficult course challenged everyone’s knowledge about fuel-efficient driving, while getting the most out of hybrid technology that combines electric and gas power.
The “Think Blue. World Championship.” is an integral part of “Think Blue.”, the attitude of Volkswagen towards ecological sustainability. For this Championship, a Carbon Footprint was calculated in co-operation with Climate Partner in order to make the event climate neutral.

WorldAuto® is a unique Volkswagen-sponsored used car program that includes automobiles outside the Volkswagen brand. Volkswagen dealers will have the advantage of offering not only Volkswagen vehicles, but also different brands of cars that are inspected and protected through a third-party provider, with the attributes typically found in standard Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) programs. To date, every Volkswagen dealership has passed the comprehensive internal training requirement for the WorldAuto® program.
“We developed the WorldAuto® program to enhance used vehicle values and support the Volkswagen Dealer Network in providing excellent customer service,” said Scott Weitzman, General Manager of Volkswagen’s used car programs. “Through WorldAuto®, customers can choose from a wide variety of high-quality used vehicles on the Volkswagen dealership’s WorldAuto lot. We are strong in the used car market, and if you want to grow, you need to attract new customers that will trade other brands. We’re not growing with the market, but above the market. We’re supporting our dealers.”

Volkswagen Announces Beetle Fender Edition

The Beetle Fender® Edition is unique inside and out. From the outside, the car is distinguished by Deep Black Pearl Metallic paint, brushed chrome mirrors, Fender badging on the sides of the car, 18-inch “Disc” aluminum-alloy wheels, and Bi-Xenon headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights. Inside, there’s a striking dashboard that incorporates the Fender badge and was inspired by the iconic Fender sunburst design. The Turbo models also have sport seats upholstered in V-Tex leatherette with unique cloth inserts.
And, of course, the Beetle Fender® Edition features the high-performance, award-winning Fender Premium Audio System. The concert-quality audio is the result of proprietary Panasonic® speaker technology, which cuts through noise, and dual-voice coil speakers that faithfully reproduce the sound of a live performance. Volkswagen has announced details of the 2013 Volkswagen CC R-Line which will be available in late 2012:
The 2013 CC model range:
2.0T Sport
The 2.0T Sport provides entry to the 2013 CC model range and starts at an MSRP of $30,250; it is available through special order. Standard equipment includes new 17-inch “Verme” aluminum-alloy wheels with all-season tires; Bi-Xenon headlights; LED taillights; LED license-plate illumination; rain-sensing windshield wipers; Climatronic® automatic dual-zone climate control; heated 12-way power front seats; touchscreen Premium VIII sound system with HD Radio, eight speakers, and a six-disc CD changer; Bluetooth® technology; iPod® connectivity; V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces; and matte chrome interior trim. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual with the option of a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. The Sport model with LED Daytime Running Lights and Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) is available in dealerships for an MSRP of $30,610.
2.0T R-Line®

After becoming the world's fastest hybrid at Bonneville in August, the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid LSR returned to the Salt Flats on October 5th to break the Southern California Timing Association's (SCTA) H/PS land speed record. The class is for production cars with engines of less than 1.5 liters that use forced induction.
Motor Trend Associate Road Test Editor Carlos Lago averaged 186.313 mph over two runs during the SCTA's World Finals event, eclipsing the previous record by 18.8 mph. In the course of making his second run, Lago averaged 187.147 mph for the last mile, beating the magical 300 km/h mark. This is also the fastest run recorded by a hybrid, beating the 185.394 mph set by the same car back in August.
"We're very proud that the Jetta Hybrid has not only posted the fastest speed for a hybrid at Bonneville, but that it has gone out and broken and SCTA land speed record as well," said Jonathan Browning, CEO and President, Volkswagen Group of America. VW Offers 3 Month Subscription on Satellite Radio Equipped Vehicles
Volkswagen is now offering a 3-month subscription to Sirius XM Radio on all pre-owned vehicles equipped with factory-installed satellite radios, which are sold at their dealerships. Some Volkswagen dealers, including Emich VW, are also offering the 3-month subscription on other brands of pre-owned vehicles they sell, as long as they also are equipped with factory-installed satellite radio.

Team Emich at Mid-Ohio - Pirelli World Challenge Results
The Emich Racing team did extremely well last weekend at the Pirelli World Challenge race at Mid-Ohio.
Fred Emich had to change engines and start at the back of the pack, yet finished 7th in the first race! The second race was a rain-soaked mess. After some impressive wet weather driving, he finished 10th.
Our newest team member, Travis Wolcott, made his Pro racing debut with us and managed to qualify and finish his first race in 2nd place! Incredible job! He also managed to finish 8th in the rain on Sunday.
Overall, a good weekend for the team!

The Chattanooga, Tennessee-built Volkswagen Passat has earned yet another distinct recognition during this, its first year on sale. In addition to being awarded top-rated premium mid-size car in the Autobytel and AutoPacific 2012 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, the Passat was also recognized as the Most Ideal Premium Mid-Size Car for 2012 as part of AutoPacific’s New Vehicle Satisfaction Survey. Additionally, owner respondents voted the Golf hatch as the Most Ideal Compact Car.
The Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA) are unique from other automotive awards given each year in that they are based on owner input to a survey that measures any changes that the owners would make to their new vehicle. Questions are based on 15 key vehicle attributes such as exterior styling, passenger roominess, and cargo space. Over 75,000 owners across all manufacturers were surveyed—after having purchased their 2012 model vehicle between September and December 2011 and after driving their vehicle for 90 days.
“The significance of the Ideal Vehicle Awards is that they identify the automotive manufacturers that are listening to their buyers when updating and developing their latest cars,” said George Peterson, President of AutoPacific. “The IVAs are awarded to those vehicles whose owners like them just the way they are.”

Power and Associates 2012 Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study. Volkswagen also received high marks for the GTI (second in the Compact Sporty Car class); Tiguan (second in Compact Crossover SUV); Touareg (second in Midsize Premium Crossover SUV); and Golf (second in Compact Car). The Beetle and the Jetta placed fourth and tied for fifth respectively in the Compact Car class, giving VW three cars in the top five in this highly competitive segment.
Year-on-year, Volkswagen improved its mean index score by 14 points, continuing to outpace the non-premium average, and rose one place to 13th place overall in the Study. Volkswagen Passat Sets World Record

The world's most fuel-efficient couple has done it again. John and Helen Taylor were determined to break the record for the farthest distance traveled on a single tank of fuel. They decided to attempt the record in the U.S. with a stock 2012 Volkswagen Passat SE TDI Clean Diesel vehicle equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. The previous record for the most miles covered on a single tank of diesel was 1526.6 miles, achieved with a VW Passat 1.6 BlueMotion (R) diesel in Europe.
The result? A new record of 1626.1 miles, achieved on one tank of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel under real world driving condition. That's an incredible 99.5 miles better than the old mark. Over the course of three days and driving through nine states, the couple averaged 84.1 miles per gallon, spending only 4.65 cents per mile. The three-day drive commenced on May 3,2012 in Houston, TX and ended on May 5, 2012 in Sterling, Virginia. The world's most fuel-efficient couple has done it again. John and Helen Taylor were determined to break the record for the farthest distance traveled on a single tank of fuel. They decided to attempt the record in the U.S. with a stock 2012 Volkswagen Passat SE TDI Clean Diesel vehicle equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. The previous record for the most miles covered on a single tank of diesel was 1526.6 miles, achieved with a VW Passat 1.6 BlueMotion (R) diesel in Europe.
The result? A new record of 1626.1 miles, achieved on one tank of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel under real world driving condition. That's an incredible 99.5 miles better than the old mark. Over the course of three days and driving through nine states, the couple averaged 84.1 miles per gallon, spending only 4.65 cents per mile. The three-day drive commenced on May 3,2012 in Houston, TX and ended on May 5, 2012 in Sterling, Virginia. Marion's blog that details his efforts to help his 2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T reach 500,000 miles culminated in a trip to Volkswagen Group of America's Auburn Hills Technical Center in Michigan to get their expert take on his car's condition.
At the Volkswagen Technical Center, Marion and a videographer watched as technicians took apart his Jetta's engine over the course of two days, checking for cylinder wall wear and intake valve carbon deposits. World Challenge GLI Nearly Complete
After months of work Emich's World Challenge Series GLI is nearly complete. This collaboration with 3zero3 Motorsports has created an incredibly fast race car. In our first day of testing the Jetta GLI ran a 58.4 second lap at High Plains Raceway with driver Robb Holland. This is tenths faster than the previous GTI Robb had raced in World Challenge and seconds faster than the Volvo C30 he raced last year. Our year kicks off at Laguna Seca May 12th. Emich VW To Race World Challenge
Emich VW is currently in the process of building a Mk 6 GLI into a World Challenge racecar. Emich plans on running most of the 2012 SCCA Pro World Challenge schedule. Currently the vehicle is being completed with the help of Two Create LLC and 3zero3 Motorsports. Our previous sponsorship of a GTI that raced in the 2010 World Challenge series has aided us in the current GLI build and we have high hopes that we will have a fast car. VW #2 in the World
Unfortunately VW learned yesterday that they had not accomplished their goal to be the #1 car manufacture in the world for 2011. GM won the title despite exiting bankruptcy just two years ago. Toyota the perennial #1 finished #3 due to tsunami caused production restraints. Rumor is that VW could have challenged GM for the #1 spot this year however their acquisition of Man Trucks was not counted in the 2011 numbers, however will be included in their 2012 numbers. Despite finishing #2 in 2011 VW is still on track to accomplish their goal of being the number one manufacture earlier than their 2018 prediction.
In the US Volkswagen has forecasted an incredible sales increase of 45% over their 2011 sales which were the best they had seen in decades. I think with their new found focus on customer satisfaction/experience that VW will succeed with their loafty goals this year.
