2015 VW Golf GTI Wins Cheap Speed Challenge

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI has won the first-ever Cars.com/ USA Today/ Motorweek Cheap Speed Challenge.  This challenge focused on the performance of cars priced at less than $30,000.  Eight contenders were tested and the Golf GTI came out on top!   Tests included:

• Zero-to-60-mph times and quarter-mile times and speeds
• 60 mph to zero braking distances
• Professional road course testing on a closed track
• 200 miles of driving on varying roads to test each car for real-world fuel economy
• Round-robin driving where each expert evaluated each car on the same street route, back-to-back, to gather overall impressions on drive, features and comfort

VW Announces Vehicle Changes for 2015

Volkswagen has announced several exciting vehicle changes for 2015:

--New VW Golf GTI has a 210-horsepower engine and offers improved fuel efficiency and performance.

--VW Passat, VW Beetle, VW Golf, and VW Jetta TDI® Clean Diesel models all receive the new, more fuel-efficient EA288 engine, with 10 more horsepower.
--The e-Golf is Volkswagen’s first full Battery Electric Vehicle for sale in the U.S.!
--For 2015, Volkswagen has redesigned the Jetta,  It offers a better value, more available driver assistance features, and refreshed exterior and interior.  VW Touareg is also being replaced by a refreshed model that offers new front and rear styling,  more refined interior, and new available driver assistance features.

--The all-new VW Golf is bigger, lighter, and more fuel-efficient than the previous model.  It seats five and has a larger trunk than any midsize sedan.
--Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen will be replaced by a bigger, even more spacious Golf SportWagen early in 2015.

--All-new VW Golf R, with 292 horsepower, will go on sale during the 2015 model year.

New VW SUV To Be Produced in U.S.

Within the framework of its Strategy 2018 plan, the Volkswagen Group is expanding its industrial footprint in the US. The Board of Directors of Volkswagen Group of America has decided to award the production of the new midsize SUV to the Chattanooga plant in Tennessee. The Group will be investing a total of approximately US$900 million (€643 million) in the production of a newly developed, seven-passenger SUV, and creating 2,000 additional jobs in the US. About US$600 million (€432 million) will be invested in Tennessee.

“The Chattanooga-built midsize SUV will allow us to fulfill the wishes of our dealer network, bringing new customers to our showrooms and additional growth for the brand,” said Michael Horn, President and CEO Volkswagen Group of America. “We are eager to be entering this growing vehicle segment with a world-class, seven-passenger SUV from Volkswagen.”
