Volkswagen Beetle R-Line to Be Available in U.S.

Volkswagen R GmbH has developed the R-Line for drivers who want the sporty and aggressive styling of the Volkswagen R models, but without the additional performance. In Germany, many of Volkswagen’s best-selling vehicles are available with an R-Line derivative, but until now this has only been the case with the CC in the U.S.

That will change when the Beetle R-Line goes on sale in early 2013. Offered only on the Turbo model, the Beetle R-Line is differentiated by a number of exterior and interior enhancements. The new, more aggressive front bumper sports grained black surfaces and chrome-framed turn signals, while the rear bumper now incorporates a race-inspired diffuser. R-Line logos, standard 19-inch “Tornado” aluminium-alloy wheels, and Bi-Xenon headlights with LED DRLs also help to differentiate the car from a regular Beetle Turbo.

Inside, the R-Line model features custom stainless-steel kickplates, a steering wheel badge, a unique color dashboard panel, and contrasting-color stitching on the seats, shifter knob, and handbrake lever. Beetle R-Line pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Volkswagen Announces Winner of First "Think Blue. World Championship"

The winner of the first Volkswagen “Think Blue. World Championship.” on U.S. soil crossed the finish line in Los Angeles, Calif. today. In a two-day competition, the 18 best inter¬national drivers took fuel-efficient driving to a higher level, achieving a range of 49.9 mpg with the brand new Jetta Hybrid.

The winners from the 2012 national championships from all over the world competed in a one-of-a-kind rally: driving from San Francisco to Santa Monica, their goal was to achieve the lowest fuel consumption and also demonstrate their knowledge of ecological sustainability.

On the 402-mile course through California, the participants experienced the new Jetta Hybrid and its different driving modes: from city streets to the curvy Pacific Coast Highway and freeways. The difficult course challenged everyone’s knowledge about fuel-efficient driving, while getting the most out of hybrid technology that combines electric and gas power.

The “Think Blue. World Championship.” is an integral part of “Think Blue.”, the attitude of Volkswagen towards ecological sustainability. For this Championship, a Carbon Footprint was calculated in co-operation with Climate Partner in order to make the event climate neutral.

Volkswagen Introduces World Auto (R) Program

WorldAuto® is a unique Volkswagen-sponsored used car program that includes automobiles outside the Volkswagen brand. Volkswagen dealers will have the advantage of offering not only Volkswagen vehicles, but also different brands of cars that are inspected and protected through a third-party provider, with the attributes typically found in standard Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) programs. To date, every Volkswagen dealership has passed the comprehensive internal training requirement for the WorldAuto® program.

“We developed the WorldAuto® program to enhance used vehicle values and support the Volkswagen Dealer Network in providing excellent customer service,” said Scott Weitzman, General Manager of Volkswagen’s used car programs. “Through WorldAuto®, customers can choose from a wide variety of high-quality used vehicles on the Volkswagen dealership’s WorldAuto lot. We are strong in the used car market, and if you want to grow, you need to attract new customers that will trade other brands. We’re not growing with the market, but above the market. We’re supporting our dealers.”

WorldAuto® vehicles are defined using two different program names: Certified Pre-owned (CPO) for eligible Volkswagen vehicles and Quality Pre-Owned (QPO) for eligible non-Volkswagen vehicles. Vehicles that qualify for the WorldAuto® program may be up to six years old and have up to 75,000 miles on the odometer. The CPO warranty is a two-year or 24,000-mile (whichever occurs first) comprehensive limited warranty administered by Volkswagen of America, Inc., which starts when the new vehicle limited warranty expires, or on the date of sale of the CPO (whichever occurs later). Every CPO Volkswagen vehicle comes with:

• 24-month/24,000-mile Limited Warranty
• Two years of 24-hour Roadside Assistance (provided by a third-party)
• 112-point dealer inspection report
• CARFAX® Vehicle History Report
• Complimentary 3-month Trial of SiriusXM® Satellite Radio

The QPO warranty is a one-year or 12,000-mile (whichever occurs first) limited warranty which starts on the date of sale of the WorldAuto® QPO. Volkswagen Announces Beetle Fender Edition

The Beetle Fender® Edition is unique inside and out. From the outside, the car is distinguished by Deep Black Pearl Metallic paint, brushed chrome mirrors, Fender badging on the sides of the car, 18-inch “Disc” aluminum-alloy wheels, and Bi-Xenon headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights. Inside, there’s a striking dashboard that incorporates the Fender badge and was inspired by the iconic Fender sunburst design. The Turbo models also have sport seats upholstered in V-Tex leatherette with unique cloth inserts.

And, of course, the Beetle Fender® Edition features the high-performance, award-winning Fender Premium Audio System. The concert-quality audio is the result of proprietary Panasonic® speaker technology, which cuts through noise, and dual-voice coil speakers that faithfully reproduce the sound of a live performance. The sound system consists of a 10-channel amplifier that provides a whopping 400 watts of system power to four Fender Deluxe™ tweeters, two Fender Twin™ speakers, two Fender rear speakers, and one Fender Bassman™ subwoofer.
