Changes For 2014 VW Model Year

There are some exciting changes coming for the 2014 Volkswagen model year---

From VW.com:

• Jetta SE and SEL models are fitted with new 170-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, offering a manufacturer predicted highway fuel economy improvement of 16 percent
• All Jetta models now have independent rear suspension
• VW Car-Net™ connected services introduced across a broad range of models
• New 1.8-liter engine in the Beetle has manufacturer predicted highway fuel economy improvement of 17 percent
• Sporty Beetle GSR® special edition offers dramatic appearance package
• Beetle R-Line model replaces Turbo, adding new bumpers, badging, and optional 19-inch wheels and Bi-Xenon headlights
• Passat trims are revised and new 1.8-liter engine replaces 2.5-liter unit, starting in the SEL model
• R-Line added to the Tiguan range
• Touareg R-Line joins the lineup
• All VW models are now E15 capable

Volkswagen Passat TDI Clean Diesel Sets World Record

Volkswagen Passat TDI Clean Diesel has set the Guinness World Record (R) for 'lowest fuel consumption-- 48 U.S. States-- for a non-hybrid car'.  The record setting fuel consumption came in at 77.99 mpg; that was 10 mpg better than the previous record of 67.9 mpg.

VW Passat TDI (R) Clean Diesel Attempts to Set Record

From VW.com:

Volkswagen of America announced today that it will challenge the existing GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® achievement for the “lowest fuel consumption—48 U.S. states for a non-hybrid car.” Two drivers will pilot a 2013 Passat TDI® Clean Diesel, leaving from and returning to Volkswagen’s Herndon, Va. headquarters. This 8,000-mile, 48 contiguous state drive entails traveling west along a southerly route and circling back via a northerly one for approximately two weeks. The drivers will stop at various points along the way and will share their experiences through Volkswagen’s social media channels: @VW, #VWTDI, and www.facebook.com/VW.
